Yaroslavl International Airport (Tunoshna) is the airport of Yaroslavl, the center of the Yaroslavl region. It is an airport of federal significance. It is located in the Tunoshenskoye rural settlement of the Yaroslavl municipal district of the Yaroslavl region, 2 km northeast of the village of Tunoshna, 17 km southeast of the city center of Yaroslavl, 51 km southwest of the city center of Kostroma, near the federal highway M8 "Kholmogory".

It is located in close proximity to the Volga River and from the federal highway M8 Moscow — Kholmogory (on the Yaroslavl — Kostroma section). Bus 183a runs to the airport from Yaroslavl.

The closest airfield to the Moscow aviation hub is category B (ICAO: I, 4E).

According to the "Strategy of Socio-economic Development of the Central Federal District for the period up to 2020", approved by the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 1540-r dated September 6, 2011 (as amended on 12/26/2014), it is indicated that a large transport and logistics complex for servicing aviation, railway, river and automobile cargo flows.

In the "Strategy of socio-economic development of the Yaroslavl region until 2025", approved by the decree of the Government of the Yaroslavl region dated March 6, 2014 No. 188-p (as amended on 01.02.2016), it is stated that the project is a transport interchange hub "Golden Ring" (combining on the basis of the Tunoshna airport four types of transport — air, water, railway and automobile) is one of the strategic projects (key initiatives) for the development of the Yaroslavl region.

The project organization "NTPI TI" has developed a project for the reconstruction of artificial airfield coverings (runway, taxiways, aircraft parking areas). The project involves the expansion of the runway from the existing 44 to the planned 60 meters (of which 45 meters is the formal width of the runway on a concrete cushion and additional reinforced roadsides – 7.5 meters each), the construction of new aircraft parking areas, increasing the strength of artificial coverings. The project received a positive conclusion of the state expertise.

The design organization Krasaeroproekt has developed a project for the construction of a new international-class passenger terminal building with an estimated capacity of 450 passengers per hour.

The issue of creating a multimodal transport interchange hub on the basis of Yaroslavl Airport has been repeatedly discussed. The airport is located near the Volga River, which allows you to combine air transportation with other modes of transport.

Yaroslavl Airport (Tunoshna) is designed to receive and service up to 15-17 aircraft per day. The passenger terminal (with a total area of 1000 m2) is able to provide reception and departure of up to 180 passengers per hour on domestic flights, up to 100 passengers per hour on international flights. The cargo terminal (with an area of 833 m2) handles up to 150 tons of cargo per day on domestic and international flights.

Class B airfield, runway 05/23, length 3010 m × width 44 m, classification number of coating strength of the runway RSN 38/R/S/X/T - in summer, RSN 51/R/S/X/T - in winter; 5 taxiways MRD, B, C, D, E; 16 aircraft parking spaces.

When servicing passengers of international flights, the terminal operates a reversible service technology (servicing only the departing flight or only the arriving flight).

Provides mail and cargo services for domestic and international air transportation, including hazard classes and categories: 1.4S; 2.2; 3; 4.1; 5.1; 6; 8; 9.

There is a cafe, a high-comfort lounge, a souvenir shop in the terminal building.

The airport has an ICAO category I, IAC certificate No. 091 A-M dated 03.06.2013 (the certificate is valid until 19.02.2018), aerodrome operator certificate No. FAVT.OA-042 dated 21.11.2016 according to the new Federal Aviation Regulations No. 286 dated September 25, 2015.

According to the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 726-r dated April 20, 2016, Yaroslavl Airport (Tunoshna) is:

- the airport of the administrative center (capital) of the subject of the Russian Federation;
- an airport of federal significance;
- international airport.

Yaroslavl (Tunoshna) Airport is open for international flights of passenger and cargo aircraft (by Order of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 2096-r dated December 13, 1999, by Order of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation No. 104 dated June 18, 2001) with permitted limits: passes through the state border up to 100 passengers per hour, handling international cargo — up to 150 tons cargo per day. At the airport there is a customs post and a cargo-passenger multilateral air checkpoint across the state border of the Russian Federation (according to the orders of the Government of the Russian Federation dated 20.11.2008 No. 1724-r, dated 13.04.2015 No. 641-r). International passenger flights are carried out under one-time permits of the Federal Air Transport Agency.
