Izhevsk Airport (IATA: IJK, ICAO: USII) is the airport of the city of the same name, the capital of Udmurtia. Located 15 kilometers east of the city center between the villages of Old Martyanovo and New Martyanovo in the Zavyalovsky district of the republic. It has the status of a federal airport. Serves only domestic passenger and cargo flights.
The operator and owner of the airfield is Izhavia Airlines. In 2014, the airport's passenger traffic amounted to 254,918 people.
Near Izhevsk there is also a Pirogovo sports airfield, together with which Izhevsk airport is the only operating civil airport in Udmurtia.
History
The very first Izhevsk airfield is Pirogovo airfield, which was built in 1934 near the village of the same name. From the Pirogovo airfield, postal and passenger flights and transportation of urgent goods were carried out. Currently, the airfield is the base of the Izhevsk aeroclub DOSAAF.
In the fall of 1943, a military airfield with a concrete runway was built on the land of the Pyatiletka state farm, which during World War II was used as a transit airfield for ferrying American AirCobra and Boston aircraft to the front, as well as domestic Il and Pe produced at Siberian aircraft factories.
In 1944, the head of the Main Directorate of the Civil Air Fleet issued an order to organize an airport in Izhevsk. On the site of modern Molodezhnaya Street, a runway measuring 1000 × 54 m and several service structures were built. In 1951, AMSG was organized at the airport.
At its current location, the new Izhevsk airport was opened in 1974 near the village of Staroe Martyanovo, in connection with the development of the territory of the old airport with residential neighborhoods. It became the third Izhevsk airport and made it possible to receive the modern at that time An-24, An-26, Yak-42, Tu-134 aircraft.
In 1996 it was decided to build an international terminal at Izhevsk airport. But, due to the sharp drop in passenger traffic and the economic crisis, the terminal still remains unfinished. In the future, it is possible to create a modern international transport logistics complex on the basis of the Izhevsk airport.
On 23 August 2011, RusLine Airlines began operating flights Moscow - Izhevsk - Moscow. The flights were operated on the Bombardier CRJ 200 LR airliner. In October, Rusline stopped flights to Izhevsk, but resumed them in May 2013.
Since April 1, 2013, under the program for the development of passenger air transportation in the Volga Federal District, from Izhevsk, Dexter air taxis are operated on Pilatus PC-12 aircraft to Kirov and Samara, as well as by Ak Bars Aero airline on Cessna 208B aircraft to Nizhny Novgorod.
With funding from the Udmurt Republic in the amount of 164 million rubles in 2012, Izhavia Airlines, as the owner of the airport, overhauled the building of the first terminal, installed a visualization system for the building, bought an apron bus and introscopes for checking baggage and hand luggage, built an airport perimeter fence and Driveway. To ensure flight safety, anti-icing equipment was purchased.
Since October 28, 2018, Aeroflot operates regular flights on the Izhevsk - Sheremetyevo airport route.
In December 2018, the airport passed into the possession of the Nizhny Novgorod LLC "Help" with the aim of further separation from Izhavia and spinning off into a separate legal entity.
Airfield complex
The airport complex consists of one two-story passenger terminal built in 1974. There is an unfinished terminal next to it, which was intended for international flights.

For several years, Izhevsk airport has been preparing to receive international status. At the moment, reconstruction has already begun in the building of the old terminal, while the infrastructure of the customs post and the Russian border crossing point will be used both for meeting arriving passengers and for departing passengers. Primary financing of work is carried out from funds earned by the enterprise, as well as funds from the budget of the Udmurt Republic.
The airport runway has a concrete coating and allows to receive such aircraft as An-12, An-24, An-26, Il-76 (with a single permit), Il-62 (with a single permit), Tu-134, Tu- 154, Yak-42, Bombardier CRJ 100/200, Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia, Pilatus PC-12, Sukhoi Superjet 100, Airbus A-319, Airbus A-320 and its modifications, Airbus A-320 Neo and its modifications, Boeing 737 -800 and ever lighter, as well as helicopters of all types.
Transport connection
The airport is connected with the city by the A-1 motorway and has an access to the Izhevsk ring road, through which you can get to other regions of the republic. The only public transport that allows you to get to the city is an IPOPAT bus of the suburban route No. 331, following from 9 January Street in the Bummash area along Voroshilov, Petrov, Molodezhnaya, Lenin streets.
Also, there are railway lines to the airport.
