The air harbor serves the city of Pechora and nearby settlements, which have a difficult-to-reach location for ground transportation. The airport is located at a distance of 9 km from the city and is located in its river part. The air hub has been assigned a regional status, and it is the only air gate of the Komi Republic. Its airfield complex is equipped with a runway, which has an asphalt concrete surface. Its length is 1.8 km, and its width is 40 m. It can accept and service Class 3 and 4 airliners, namely: AN-2/24/26/28, YAK-40, L-410, ATR – 42 and all types of helicopters. The air hub belongs to and is a hub for the Comiaviatrans company.
Its history dates back to March 1952 with permission to allocate a plot in the possession of the Kaninsky Forestry, with an area of 102 hectares, for the construction of an airfield complex in this area. And already in October of the same year, the first LI-2 aircraft landed here, which flew along the Syktyvkar-Ukhta-Pechora route. During this time, the airport has expanded significantly and can accept aircraft heavier in their take-off weight. Various helicopter models are also widely used here. A particularly wide range of work was carried out using the MI-8 model. And the airport management decided to erect a monument of this brand. And every visitor to the terminal can see it in the square, near the station square.
At the request of the Council of Ministers of the Komi ASSR, the Council of Ministers of the USSR, by its order of March 10, 1952, authorized the allotment of a land plot for the construction of a GVF airfield in the Kaninsky forestry of the Kozhvinsky Forestry with an area of 102 hectares. On October 1, 1952, the first Li-2 aircraft landed on the airfield. A new Syktyvkar—Ukhta —Pechora air route has opened.
In 1956, the airline was relocated from the Kaninsky forestry to Pechora, to a new airfield. Since 1967, the airport has been receiving AN-10, AN-12, AN-24 aircraft, since 1974 — IL-14, Yak-40, since 1993 — An-26. In the mid-1990s, the Pechora— Moscow flight was operated for a short time on Yak-42 aircraft. The airport also operated Mi-1, Mi-2, Mi-4, Mi-6, Mi-8, Mi-10 helicopters. The Mi-8 helicopter monument is installed in front of the passenger terminal building in the park area.
In 2022, the Pechora airfield was removed from the register of Russian civil aviation airfields.
